If you talk to a man in a language he understands, that goes to his head. If you talk to him in his language, that goes to his heart.
– Nelson Mandela

Before visiting Egypt, I didn’t even know a single word in Arabic but soon I realized that I need to know some of the basic words to have a conversation going. In fact, it’s nice when you speak even a few words in Arabic to the locals, they feel a lot more connected and for a lot of people, it’s fun to listen to a foreigner speaking their native language as we don’t get their dialect so it sounds funny.  At certain times it was a need, like when talking to a cab driver or maybe bargaining with some shop keeper or worse situations like when you get lost around the city.

I always feel super happy and proud when I learn even the basics of a language of the country that I travel to. Locals appreciate when they feel we are immersing ourselves into their culture. Trust you me, that’s one the best part of traveling to a foreign land.

Below is a list of words which I had learned during my stay in Egypt which were really helpful for me and I guess it will be the same for you if you ever plan to travel to any Arab country.

Greetings
